"An Old Coaches Thinking on Modern Basketball Players"

From Duane Silver's newsletter...............

"An Old Coaches Thinking on Modern Basketball Players"

*I am not allowed to tell you this coaches name. He has coached 34 years in 5A basketball and he is really smart. What he is saying today is not true of all basketball players, but it seems to hit the majority of the kids (boys and girls). I love his thoughts!!!!

*After reading this tell me what you think!

1.) Basketball does not mean much to them today.

2.) A loss does not seem to bother them at all.

3.) Few kids have court sense.(Savvy) The teams that win have players with Savvy.

4.) You have to script everything you do and if there is any change in the game they go crazy. They don't know how to naturally adjust.

5.) Kids don't play enough outside anymore. They don't play tag or know how to dodge anyone. This is why they charge all the time going to the basket.

6.) They play too many videos games.

7.) Kids today don't even have friends on the team in large school. They don't take the time to know one another.

8.) The players that don't get to play much, don't even pull for their own team.

9.) Administrators don't have a clue about "Tough Love" when a coach gets on a kid. They back the kid and not the coach.

10.) There are almost no Natural Leaders.

11.) You must have a simplistic approach to coaching today's players. (You offense must be simple)

12.) Players that can really play are more interested in getting a scholarship than playing for their school.

13.) Parents are only for their son or daughter, but that has always been true.

14.) Because of the high divorce rate in American and so many children being raised by Moms only, they are not used to a man pushing them to get better.
